The Collaro Show: puppets, playmates and satirical humour

Stéphane Collaro and his company Julia Productions have entrusted Ina with the digitisation and commercial management of its entertainment programmes.

The Coco Boy

Stéphane Collaro left his satirical mark on 1970s’ and 1980s’ French television. Adverts, gags and the humourous “Video-flic”, appearances by scantily dressed playmates, news read by comic Guy Montagné… They’re all there in his programmes, be it “Cocoricocoboy” (1984-1986), “Collaricocoshow” on the fifth channel, La Cinq (1987), “Mondo Dingo”, again on La Cinq, then TF1 in 1988, “CocoParadise” also in 1988, “Pas folles les bêtes” (1987-1988), “Y’a-t-il encore un coco dans le show?” (1989) or “Le grand cocotier” and “Larico Lade”.

Focus on the “Bébête Show”

The first political puppets appeared on French television in 1982. And they are still very present in the collective memory. The “Bébête Show” created by Jean Amadou, Jean Roucas and Stéphane Collaro, was very loosely inspired by the Muppet Show. The politicians in the spotlight at the time were all transformed. François Mitterrand was Kermit the frog, Raymond Barre was Fozzie, the cuddly bear and Jacques Chirac, Sam, the blue-feathered eagle. Communist party leader Georges Marchais, meanwhile, became Miss Piggy reincarnate. Puns were rife and satirical humour the name of the game.
