This collection looks back at this major achievement with footage of the means employed.
The collection presents video material of the milestones in the development of this Franco-British project lead by TransManche link for 8 years (1986 to 1994), which gave the then 12 country European Union a new cutting-edge means of transport.
The audiovisual documents featured in this collection come from the association Amicale des Bâtisseurs du Tunnel sous la Manche. They encompass the construction’s main stages: the drilling that lead to the first junction, the tunnel’s rings being carried underground by gigantic machines, the positioning of the tracks, the concreting operations, to end up with the ceremony during which the sponsor Eurotunnel was handed the tunnel’s keys. The collection also includes emotional testimonies of the proud builders.
